About Talmalmo Cottage

We live in one of the most beautiful and most private parts of the country, nestled on the bank of the mighty Upper Murray River in its most natural state, below Jingellic and above the Hume Weir. Woomargama National Park is right on our doorstep, viewed from the cottage and easily accessible for bush walking and 4-Wheel driving.

Upper Murray Valley Accomodation Talmalmo CottageWe want to share the spectacular views and unique environment at Talmalmo Cottage with people looking to experience the sheer beauty of the Upper Murray Valley’s best kept secret. Our accommodation offers a quiet, private, self-contained environment where you can choose to be totally alone with the natural world while enjoying the luxury of our (pet friendly) accommodation. It is a paradise for artisans who want inspiration for painting, sculpture, writing, music, or to read and relax on the veranda with the river flowing by. Alternatively, you can enjoy the tranquillity and beauty here, while engaging in any number of activities available regionally including fishing, canoeing, bush walking, bird watching, golfing, painting, and dining out in nearby Jingellic, Walwa, Holbrook, Khancoban and Corryong.

Our property was settled approximately in the mid-late 1800’s and was once operated as a dairy farm, with several owners until we purchased the property in 1994. ”Leura” (as it has always been known), has been a dairy, beef and sheep property, with 50 acres of river flats and river frontage. The property once owned much of the hill country we can see around us. The properties on either side of us are two of the oldest beef and sheep producing properties to be settled in the Upper Murray Valley – ‘Talmalmo Station’, and ‘Fernbank’, and are still run by descendants of the original owners. Our cottage is perched on the Upper Murray River bank, at “Leura”, Talmalmo. The veranda of Talmalmo Cottage is on the NSW bank and overlooks the Murray River, across to Mount Alfred and Mount Lawson National Park in Victoria, with Woomargama National Park behind us, Jingellic village 17kms to the East and Wymah (Ferry) 30kms to the West.

You can get to Talmalmo Cottage by turning off the Hume Freeway at either Woomargama or Holbrook, both being approximately half way between Melbourne and Sydney. We are ideally located to visit the Man from Snowy River Festival at Corryone (65kms), Tumbafest at Tumbarumba (70kms), Towong Races at Towong (60kms) and the historic towns of Jingellic, Walwa, Holbrook, and Tintaldra. We are one hour from Albury, two hours from Wagga, three hours from Canberra and on the way to Mt  Kosciuszko and NSW/VIC snowfields.
